As the WSO enters its 70th season and my 26th as Music Director, I take great pride in announcing our upcoming season of beloved symphonic favorites and fabulous soloists. It could be entitled from the “Old World to the New World”. You will see why.

We have two brothers from the well-known Romanul family, with whom I have worked with for decades. Victor and Alexander will perform two beautiful and rarely heard compositions by Bruch and Lumbye. Also on that October concert are audience favorites Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave) and Dvorak’s From the New World Symphony.

A returning artist to our season is the superb young baritone John Castillo and features our new principal horn, Jeff Stewart. These artists will be enjoyed in the November program.

Our traditional Holiday Pops will feature the young and and talented Elaine Daiber. The Family Concert in March will again have Brian Hagar-McKee as our entertaining host, as well as the winner of the WSO Young Soloist Competition.

February brings us an intriguing combination of classic and contemporary. Internationally celebrated pianist Victor Rosenbaum will perform the wonderful Mozart Concerto no. 22 in E flat, contrasted with the newly commissioned An Appalachian Trail Symphony by Keane Southard. Don’t miss this one!

The season finale in May will thrill our audience with a wonderful vocal quartet and the 60 voice New World Chorale, as they join the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra in a memorable performance of the magnificent Beethoven 9th Symphony – “Choral”

Hoping to see you all back for another great season.

Musically yours,
